The eruption of 2001, buried under millions of cubic meters of lava a part of this path; recently restored,the path leading to the eruptive vents of mount, the trail runs along the river of lava that threatened the town of Nicolosi. The eruptive fissure of Monte Gemmellaro today shows signs of the destructive fury of the volcano.
